YouTube outlier finder

Find the videos that took off. Look up a channel to see its latest 100 videos, each scored against the channel's usual (median) views. A video at ×3 or more is an outlier: an idea, title or thumbnail worth studying.

Public YouTube data only. Nothing you look up is stored

×1 means a video got the channel's usual views; ×3 means three times as many. Very new videos are still gaining views, so they're marked.

How it works

The tool asks the official YouTube Data API for a channel's latest 100 uploads and their views, then finds the channel's median, the views a typical video gets. Each video's score is its views divided by that median.

Sort by score, total views, views per day or date, or show only the outliers (×3 or more). Studying a channel's outliers, and the outliers of channels like yours, is a quick way to find topics that viewers want right now.

Questions people ask

Why the median and not the average?

One viral video pulls the average up so far that every other video looks weak. The median is the middle video, so it shows what the channel normally gets.

Why does a new video score low?

Videos keep getting views for weeks. Videos younger than 2 days are marked, and “views per day” helps compare new and old videos fairly.
